IR Songket, one of the leading micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in North Sumatra, has established a partnership with Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan, a renowned hotel in Medan city. This collaboration aims to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in the region and is part of a program facilitated by the North Sumatra Provincial Cooperative Office.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place at Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan on September 11, 2024. This partnership is expected to pave the way for further development of local MSMEs by involving the participation of both private and government sectors.

The North Sumatra Provincial Office of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises acted as the main facilitator, connecting MSME needs with resources and support from the hospitality sector. Ermi Nurhayati Hutabarat, Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Office of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, stated that this partnership is one of the strategic initiatives undertaken to advance the MSME sector, which has been one of the backbones of the local economy.

"With the involvement of private parties like Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan, MSMEs can access broader markets and receive support in improving product and service quality," Ermi said.

Ermi also mentioned that this program aims to provide training, mentoring, and access to larger market networks. "This collaboration is a concrete example of synergy between the government, businesses, and MSMEs in creating a healthy and sustainable business ecosystem," she added.

Edi Suprayetno, Hotel Manager of Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan, stated that this partnership represents the hotel’s commitment to supporting the local economy by empowering MSMEs. Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan will provide space for MSMEs to market their products within the hotel and assist in promoting these products to hotel guests.

"We believe that supporting local MSMEs is an important part of our corporate social responsibility. By providing them with a platform to showcase their products in our hotel, we hope to help increase their visibility and sales," explained Edi Suprayetno.

The Director of IR Songket, Irfania Ramadhani, welcomed this collaboration and hopes it will help advance other MSMEs around Medan. "We are honored to collaborate with Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan and the Cooperative Office. We see this as a great opportunity to introduce our products to a wider market and increase the competitiveness of MSMEs," said Irfania.

As an MSME that has long been engaged in the traditional textile craft industry, IR Songket is committed to preserving Indonesia's cultural heritage while innovating to create products that align with modern market trends and needs.

The partnership between IR Songket and Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan is expected to serve as an example for other businesses to support MSME development in their regions. The North Sumatra Provincial Cooperative Office also plans to expand this program by involving more businesses and industry sectors in supporting MSMEs.

With this strong initial step, it is hoped that this collaboration will have a sustainable positive impact on both MSMEs and the local economy. The signing of the MoU marks a new step in the effort to empower MSMEs and demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth in North Sumatra. (adz).
